With 14 students on this year’s Rock Port Blue Jay’s trapshooting team we are learning more than how to shoot but to overcome and persevere. The 14 members of this year’s trap team are Brandon Athen, Briar Daugherty, Jadyn Geib, Jessa Geib, John Gillem, Zeke Gebhards, Jayven Hudson, Izac Hurst, Cameron Lotter, Bryna McEnaney, Archer Meyerkorth, Aidan Smyser, Corbin Wallace, and Harper Wood.
Since the start of this season their hard work has really shown in the results with several personal best for many team members. Leading the team this season are Izac Hurst, Jadyn Geib, John Gillem, Jayven Hudson, and Corbin Wallace. These shooters have displayed consistency, focus, and determination throughout this season, helping represent Rock Port on the range. This sport is also more than scores and hitting the clays but teaching the students how to overcome challenges. Coach Jeremy Palmer believes these lifelong lessons are one of the most important parts of this sport. When asked why he wanted to teach trapshooting, he said, “Teaching students a lifelong skill that they can use after high school, while giving them the opportunity to be competitive in an area that isn’t a typical high school sport.”
