Submitted by Tarkio R-I Administration

As the first quarter comes to a close, Tarkio R-I School District is celebrating a productive start to the school year, exciting improvements, strong school spir-it, and a community that continues to support our students and staff. From facility renovations to fall activities, the first quarter has been filled with reasons to be proud and have tremendous Indian Pride!

Elementary Renovations Make Progress

One of the biggest highlights of the first quarter has been the completion of Phase One of the elementary renovation project. Students, staff, and visitors can see the improvements throughout the building, including fresh hallway paint, renovated pod areas, and new windows. These updates help create a refreshed and welcoming learning environment for our elementary students and staff.

As we celebrate the completion of this first phase, the district is already looking ahead. We are currently compiling a list of priorities and projects for Phase Two of the renovations, which we hope to begin next summer. We appreciate the continued support of our community as we work to improve our facilities and provide the best possible learning environments for our students.

Celebrating School Spirit and Fall Activities

Fall has brought plenty of excitement to Tarkio R-I, with staff and students demonstrating tremendous energy throughout the first semester. Fall sporting events are beginning to wrap up, and our athletes, coaches, and supporters have represented Tarkio with enthusiasm and pride.

Homecoming was another highlight of the quarter! The week was filled with fun, school spirit, and opportunities to come together as a school community. The East Atchison Fall Homecoming parade and pep rally provided a wonderful way to cap off the celebration and show what makes Tarkio special. Thank you to everyone who helped organize the activities and participated in making homecoming such a memorable week.

The positive energy through-out our buildings has been encouraging and it is exciting to see our students and staff embracing the opportunities that a new school year brings.

Thank You for Supporting Our Students

The first quarter officially concluded with parent-teacher conferences on October 15. Thank you to all the parents and guardians who took time to meet with teachers, discuss student progress, and partner with us in supporting student success.

Strong communication be-tween home and school is essential to helping every student grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We appreciate the time, involvement, and commitment of our families. Working together, we can continue to make a positive difference for our students

Keeping an Eye on State Accountability and Funding

As the school year continues, Tarkio R-I is also monitoring several important developments at the state level.

Missouri’s new A-F school report card efforts are receiving attention from the district. While accountability measures can provide useful information, it is important to understand that the new report card measures only a limited number of specific indicators. Those indicators do not tell the entire story of a school district or capture all the work that happens each day to support students, staff, families, and the community.

The district is also awaiting the release of Annual Performance Report (APR) results, which have been moved back to December. Once those results become available, we will review the information and consider what it means for Tarkio R-I.

In addition, the district is following the work of the state’s school funding modernization task force. We are hopeful that more information about its proposals and their potential impact on Tarkio R-1 will become available soon. Understanding these developments will help the district plan responsibly and continue advocating for the needs of our students and community.

Looking Ahead to the Second Quarter

As we turn the page to the second quarter, we are excited about the opportunities ahead. The first quarter has brought meaningful progress, memorable activities, and a strong sense of community. We look forward to building on that momentum as students continue learning, growing, and reaching their goals.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community members for making Tarkio R-I such a special place. Your support, dedication, and enthusiasm make a difference every day.

Here’s to a successful second quarter filled with continued growth, achievement, and school spirit!
