Beth Graves, Fairfax District, was not present. Introductions were made and Presiding Commissioner Livengood gave an overall explanation as to why the committee was formed. He noted that the Atchison County Law Enforcement Center Citizens Committee has been established by the Atchison County Commissioners to assist with community communication, information gathering, and public understanding as the county considers the need for a new jail and law enforcement facility.
The board will serve as a communication link between the county commissioners, the Atchison County Sheriff and community members by helping ensure that residents have access to accurate, timely, and understandable information about the project. Also shared with the committee was the list of properties that have been looked at and considered for the location for a new facility.
After initial discussion, Sheriff Andy Riley led the committee to the current jail for a tour. Once the tour was complete, Kevin Rost shared a proposed layout of the new building. The committee had a lot of great questions and felt that it was important to let the public know the results of the feasibility study. Mr. Rost will assist with drafting that information. Once the county receives the information a new date will be set for the committee to meet.
There being no further business, the commission adjourned.
