The Atchison County race for Presiding Commissioner has two contenders this election – incumbent Curt Livengood and write-in candidate Larry Grimes.
Curt is the current Presiding Commissioner. He said, “I’ve been thru two historic floods and covid-19 and led the county strongly thru all three events. County financial is as sound as it’s ever been, and I wouldn’t spend taxpayers money any differently than I would if it was my own. I work hard to represent the county well and I am respected by other elected officials throughout the state of Missouri and surrounding areas. I appreciate the support the county has given me and ask the citizens of the county to continue to do that.”
Larry, a Tarkio resident, is a motor grader operator for Atchison County Road & Bridge, where he’s been employed for the past four years. He remarked, “In May 1979, Holt County Road and Bridge hired me fresh out of high school. I worked for the bridge department until turning 18. Then I became a motor grader operator in Maitland. A few months later, I transferred to the Oregon County barn as a motor grader operator. I worked for Holt County for seven years. After leaving, I went to work for Martin Marietta at the rock quarry operating heavy equipment. After four very dusty years, I decided I wanted to live my dream so I went to the law enforcement academy and became a police officer. I was a deputy sheriff and police chief for my home town of Forest City, Missouri. In 1998, I began working for the Tarkio Police Department and a few years later, I became the police chief of Tarkio. I have 21 years law enforcement experience and loved every minute of it! To make a long story short, this is how I came to Atchison County in 2000. Currently, I am a grader operator for the Atchison County Road & Bridge Rockport District. I feel this makes me a great candidate for Atchison County’s Presiding Commissioner.”
