Come in to the Rock Port Senior Center the months of November and December to enjoy fun, friendship, holiday spirit.

November will be filled with events. Challenge of the Senior Centers is a fund-raising competition between all of the senior centers throughout the Northwest Missouri Area Agency on Aging. Look for flyers at both senior centers in Atchison County and on Facebook The center that raises the most funds will receive a $1,000 prize. It is a fun competition to motivate donors, funders, and fund-raising coordinators alike. We are so lucky to have the support of our community here at Rock Port Senior Center. If you would like to make a donation to the Rock Port Senior Center, you may mail in or drop off donations at any time. Donations may be mailed to: Rock Port Senior Center, 505 South Country Club Drive, Rock Port, MO 64482.

It is almost time to send out Meal Champion letters again. You can honor a loved one or group by donating toward the cost of food for one day or even a whole month. Call Maria at 660-744-5812 for details.

We will honor our veterans with gifts and gratitude Wednesday, November 11, at the center. If you have a loved one you wish to honor or remember this Veterans Day, bring them in for lunch.

Our annual Thanksgiving dinner will be Wednesday, November 18. Folks come from all around the area, including surrounding states, for this big deal meal. We hope to see you there and have a full house. We will serve from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All are welcome. The suggested contribution for those age 60 and over is $5. The price per meal for those age 59 and under price is $10.71. (Cash or check only, please. )

Don’t forget our First Thursday Alzheimer’s Support Group on November 5 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Dave Shadinger has some dementia tool kit handouts, provided by Atchison County Health Department, for this month’s meeting. If you or anyone you know is living with or caring for someone with dementia, this group is here for support, information, and understanding. Please tell a friend.

Our bingo games will be going to once per month beginning in December and through the month of March. As colder months are upon us, we do not want the extra risk of cold-related illness or injury to befall anyone. December’s bingo will be held Tuesday the 8th. If bingo is scheduled for a day that we are closed due to weather or extreme temperatures, it will also be canceled and will not be rescheduled for that month.

Remember, our closures and other events can be sent to you via text through our texting service. If you wish to receive updates via text, please call the center and give your name, cell phone number, and say “I want the text alerts.” We also post closures to Facebook, KMAland.com, and KQ2 St. Joseph news channel.

December will be full of fun and prizes for our Christmas festivities. Rosita Stoner is cooking up more fun. Our Christmas dinner will be Monday, December 21. Back by popular demand, The Ladies in Black will be performing during our dinner. The giving tree will be up again this year for donations throughout the month. All of our donations and volunteers help us keep the senior citizens in and around Rock Port healthy, in their home, and fed. We appreciate all of our supporters!

Happy holidays from the Rock Port Senior Center!
